My name is Kim Walter and I have been teaching in Hickman Mills for 19 years, 18 years here at Symington.
I got my bachelors degree from UMKC in 1990. I majored in elementary education and got extra certification for early childhood education as my area of specialization. I got my masters degree in teaching from Webster University in 1997.
Teaching is a very rewarding experience. I feel that parents are the children’s first teachers and I am their partner in educating their child. I feel that open communication is critical in the educational partnership.
I have high expectations for all of my students because I believe that all children can learn. As a teacher It’s my job to take the individual child from where they are and help them reach their potential. I try to teach all skills in a variety of ways to try to reach all learners. I believe children learn more in small groups so I try to do reteach and enrichment groups with the students to meet individual needs.
Symington is my home, I enjoy the children, parents, and the community. I plan to a part of this community until retirement.
